GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

The golden Retriever is one of the world's most recommended family dog, because they are gentle with children. He has got an excellent nose used not only for hunting and tracking but for narotic detection. They have a great capacity and desire to learn, love and please their owners. I would recommend them as good dogs with kids, because they need to be around people to be happy. They are loveable, well mannered, intelligent dogs wih great charm. They are easily trained. They are loyal to a fault, confident, sweet and eager to please. There is just one niche to them, they have little, if any guarding instincts.................do not use them as guard dogs, because they would probably befriend the enemy. They are people lovers.

A DOG QUOTE

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

DID YOU KNOW?

All dogs are probably descended from an animal called Tomarctus. This animal lived approximately 15 million years ago.
Stone-aged people tamed dogs to help them track game. About eight thousand years ago, ancient Egyptians raised Saluki hunting dogs. Saluki is an arabic word meaning noble one. These dogs are probably the oldest known breed.
The greyhound type of dogs (the Pharaoh, Saluki, Ibizan, Basenji and Afghan) were well established in ancient Egypt 5000 years ago. It has been suggested that the Dalmatian was depicted in paintings dating back as far as 2000 years ago, and the Assyrians developed large mastiff-like breeds for use in hunting and war.

HOW THEY CAME TO BE MAN'S BEST FRIEND

Dogs are without a doubt descendants of wolves. It has been speculated that their origin began with the grey wolf. The first demonstrable signs of relationships between man and wolves date back to 10.000 to 15.000 years ago.
It's undecided whether man approached the wolf, or vice versa. However both have profited from the new situation: people used wolves during the hunt, for keeping flocks together and to warn against approaching enemies. Man in turn, made sure his wolves were fed.
Wolves are very social animals. Like you and I, they live in groups (called packs) with social ranks, in which some wolves claim leadership. This made this animal suitable and attractive as a companion, because wolves accepted man as their leader. Requirements with regard to behavior and appearance of wolves started to change. During the Middle Ages, people started seeing dogs as status symbols. Dogs gave people distinction. The number of dog breeds started to increase enormously. Dogs were bred for size, length, color, face, behavior and strokability, This is still happening today. Thus we arrive with modern day dogs.
